Family Promise of Tualatin Valley changes lives and makes our community stronger every day.

Generous financial supporters and hundreds of volunteers each year come together to make the FPTV vision a reality—a future where every family in our community has a home, a livelihood, and a chance to build a stable and connected life.

When a family is at risk of losing their home due to the loss of a job or an unexpected medical expense, FPTV helps with rent assistance, utility bills, and career supports. When a family is homeless, FPTV provides shelter, food, daily necessities, and most importantly, keeps families together, children in their own schools, and pets with the people who love them most.

Our mission is to equip vulnerable families and individuals to end the cycle of homelessness through a community-based response. FPTV is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and an affiliate of the national Family Promise Program. Family Promise has served more than 1 million family members since its founding more than 30 years ago.

Our Story

Family Promise of Tualatin Valley (FPTV) was formed to meet the needs of families experiencing houselessness in our community. While working in support services at the Tigard-Tualatin School District, our founding Executive Director, heard similar stories from houseless families—the loss of a job, an unexpected medical expense, or another raise in rent often led to the traumatic loss of housing and set out to find answers. A small coalition emerged to find a solution for the many children and their families without a safe place to sleep at night by building a Family Promise chapter dedicated to serving the communities of Tigard, Tualatin, Lake Oswego, Sherwood, and West Linn/Wilsonville while providing a community-based response to homelessness.

In October of 2016, we began hosting meetings to engage others in our mission, cementing 18 partnerships through which our rotational shelter program thrived. Rolling Hills Community Church in Tualatin generously provided the use of an unoccupied house for our shelter Day Center. In October of 2018, we began a huge renovation under the expertise of Catalyst Partnerships NW, a volunteer contractor organization. After over 1,800 volunteer hours of Day Center work, we opened our doors to sheltering families in March of 2019. Attention to every detail was paid to create a homelike environment and to reduce families’ stress and trauma while in shelter.

Today, FPTV operates out of our own building, a repurposed hotel in Tigard serving up to 70 households for shelter at a time while providing a clothing pantry and extensive food programming along with robust enrichment programming. While shelter is our largest program, we continue to grow the footprint of our Prevention and Diversion services to allow folks to stay housed and avoid shelter. We are an affiliate of the national Family Promise Program, which has over 200 affiliates nationally.
