Shelter

Bridge to Home

Thanks to generous grants from the State of Oregon, Washington County, and City of Tigard, FPTV officially owns our own building as of 2023! We have long dreamed of owning a building, not only to expand shelter services, but also to grow our family enrichment programming and increase partnerships with community service providers.

Through this program, we house up to 70 households at a time—both families and individuals—at our motel with kitchenettes for easy meal preparation in every room. While in program, each household receives weekly food support delivered directly to their rooms by a volunteer, and individualized case management and housing navigation services aimed at addressing barriers and achieving long-term, stable housing.

Prior to COVID-19, FPTV ran a rotational shelter program in partnership with our network of religious and civic organizations. We adapted this program in 2020 due to the health risks posed by congregate shelters. The motel model has offered numerous benefits, including our increasing our shelter capacity, enabling guests to cook their own meals with food support from our community, and fostering greater independence and stabilization through the autonomy motel rooms provide. This shift was critical during the pandemic, as many people who had never before experienced homelessness lost work, fell behind on rent, and lost their housing.

Volunteer Opportunities

As FPTV settles into our new building, new opportunities arise every day to help us curate this space into our forever home. Are you an artist, a chef, or a gardener? Do you have time to volunteer with the kiddos in our playroom, organize fun activities for families, or host a seminar on writing an effective resume? With our own dedicated space, we have the chance to deepen our guest enrichment programming. To learn more about how you can help, visit our volunteer page.

Food Support

Food is where the heart is, and our volunteers have done an incredible job adding warmth and delight through meals for our guests. In addition to providing weekly food deliveries to families in this program, volunteers established and run our on-site food (and pet food) pantry. Volunteers also provide warm, home-cooked meals to our guests 1-2x per week.

Clothing Support

Our volunteers help ensure our motel shelter program is as supportive and warm as possible. Our volunteer-run Clothing Closet is filled with different sizes of clothes for our families in need of clothing support. Access to clean, gently used clothing makes a huge impact in our guests’ lives.

Meet Chef Eric!

Eric, FPTV’s kitchen manager, does an incredible job fusing together the food donations we receive, along with fresh ingredients and a dash of ingenuity, to create delicious balanced meals for our guests. Eric prioritizes providing culturally appropriate meals and food items for our guests to ensure they are not only fed, but nourished.
