Family Promise understands the needs of vulnerable families. So, we offer innovative programs — such as tenancy preparation, financial literacy, and virtual career pathway training — to address them in a cost-effective, targeted approach.
AFFORDABLE HOUSING. CHILDCARE. EMPLOYMENT. TRANSPORTATION.
All of these issues—and many others—are part of the myriad causes of family homelessness. As volunteers engage in the Family Promise of Tualatin Valley program, they realize if they can address these challenges, they can serve more people more effectively.
Community Initiatives include a wide array of programs and opportunities. Some get to the heart of core needs, such as childcare and job training, families face in order to regain self-sufficiency. Other initiatives find ways to match the strengths of volunteers and the interests of local corporations with the needs of our guests, like financial literacy, food assistance, furniture and clothing donation and health, and wellness programs. One of our life coach volunteers recently partnered with one of our guest moms to start a weekly support group empowering women to reach their life goals. It is our community that drives our success and the successes of the families we work with.
Post-shelter extended support is an important part of success. The underlying causes of homelessness are not alleviated simply by providing housing, as crucial as that is. The services we provide, from family mentoring to case management, ensures that families do not slip back into homelessness so that the new routines and knowledge gained while in the Family Promise of Tualatin Valley program endures.
Solutions exist right in here in our community. Do you have unused building space to provide bridge housing? Do you know of trustworthy, reasonably priced childcare? Can you offer employment to our guests? We need volunteers who can supply families with good quality vehicles—often the one element they may need to stay out of homelessness.
