Become a Host or Support Host
VOLUNTEERS CHANGE LIVES
Family Promise of Tualatin Valley's rotational shelter program relies on a partnership of interfaith congregations and other civic volunteer groups to help local families facing homelessness. While our rotational program is on pause due to covid-19 our partners are still helping by providing food supplies to our program guests.
Our rotational host sites provide lodging, meals, and hospitality to families in need. For families in the FPTV program, each day begins with breakfast at a host site with volunteers. Families are then driven to the Day Center in our program's van. In the evening, guests return to the host site, where volunteers provide dinner and spend time with our families. The evening hours are for homework, relaxing, and family fun time, with the family all together, under one roof.

BECOME A HOST SITE
Our host sites provide temporary overnight lodging in their buildings. Hosting gives volunteers of all ages the opportunity to provide hands-on outreach to families in the Tigard-Tualatin, Sherwood, and Lake Oswego school districts. In addition to a sincere desire to support local homeless families as they regain housing and independence, the physical needs of a host include:
-
Space (classrooms, offices, etc.) for up to four families (14 people) to stay for one week at a time, 4-5 times per year.
-
A common area for meals, homework, relaxing, and fellowship.
-
Two bathrooms — the Day Center provides showers.
-
Space for two Host or Support Host volunteers to sleep.
-
A kitchen for meal preparation, fridge, and clean up items. Volunteers can also bring prepared dishes for lunch/dinner.
-
Three meals (nutritious dinners, simple breakfasts, and sack lunches), utilities (heat/cooling, water, and Wi-Fi), linens, and basic items (toys, soap, etc.). FPTV supplies portable beds.
-
A primary coordinator and at least two volunteers (from host site, support hosts, or others) whenever guests are present. All volunteers participate in an orientation before they begin.
BECOME A SUPPORT HOST
In the morning, guests are transported to the FPTV Day Center. Family members who are not at work or school spend time with our Executive Director and Case Manager to increase personal and family stability and take care of their everyday needs. School districts pick-up and drop off students from the Day Center as well. FPTV provides transportation for guests back to the Host Site each evening.
A Support Host is an organization that partners with a Host Site and provides volunteers during their shared host week. Many groups become Support Hosts because of space limitations or the size of their organization. Being a support host allows volunteers of all ages to impact local families without using their building.
In addition to the heartfelt desire to support local families, the needs of a Support Host include:
-
Volunteers to help cover shifts during the host week, including helping with meals and food preparation, playtime, homework, computer use, sleeping space set-up and take-down, and other activities. There are always 2-6 volunteers at the Host site. Volunteers complete an orientation before they begin serving.
-
A representative to serve as the Primary Coordinator to recruit volunteers for the week, attend meetings, and be the main contact for the organization.
-
Participation in fundraising events and consideration of financial contributions.

We need your help! Can your civic or religious group become a Host Site or Support Host?
THANK YOU TO OUR COMMITTED HOSTS!
